Your digital legacy, protected like a bank vault
Memento Vivere is a personal digital safe: it keeps your memories, documents and important instructions encrypted so that not even we can read them, and delivers them to the people you've chosen only if and when it truly matters.
Real encryption, not promises
Everything you upload is encrypted on your own device before it ever leaves your phone. Not even our staff can read your content — the same "zero-knowledge" approach used by the best password managers.
A trusted person, not an algorithm
You choose someone you trust (the trustee) who, only in case of genuine need, can authorize delivery of your content — never automatically, always with human judgment.
A safety timer
A simple periodic "I'm alive" check-in is all it takes to keep everything on hold. Only a prolonged absence triggers the process, and your trustee can always stop it if it's a false alarm.
What does Memento Vivere actually do?
The mechanism is simple, even though there's serious technology behind it:
- You sign up and create one or more rooms, adding the memories you want to preserve — text, photos, PDFs, videos — saved encrypted in your virtual safe.
- You set a safety timer, at whatever interval you prefer.
- A tap on "I'm alive", from the app or the website, whenever you like, resets the countdown for the same period — normally that's all you ever need to do.
- As the deadline approaches, you receive reminders (in-app, by email, etc.). If you confirm, everything simply continues as usual.
- If you don't confirm in time, your trustee is alerted and checks on the situation: they can cancel a false alarm, or authorize delivery.
- At that point, each designated beneficiary receives an email with instructions to securely access and save the contents of their room.
What is a "room"?
A room is the virtual safe dedicated to a single recipient you choose: it can hold messages, photos, PDFs and videos, all together. Each room has its own designated beneficiary, and its entire contents will be delivered to them in full — but only at the right moment, never before. You can have more than one: one for your spouse, one for a child, one for a close friend or a colleague — for any situation where you don't want to share certain information right away, but only if one day you were no longer able to share it yourself. Things like how to access your computer, where certain documents you'd rather keep private today are kept, or anything you'd want the people close to you to know only if it were truly necessary — without having to give up your privacy while everything is fine.
Why the app is the main way to manage everything
The website explains everything you need to know, but it's from the app — on your phone or computer — that you actually manage your safe: creating rooms, uploading memories, choosing your trustee and beneficiaries, setting the safety timer. The website remains your reference point for questions, terms and pricing.
Two passwords, two different roles
Inside the app you'll find two distinct passwords, and the difference matters:
- Login password: only used to get into the app, just like with any other service. If you forget it you can reset it, but be careful: resetting it also wipes your safe (for the same reason as the master password below — the two are linked), so every memory already uploaded would be lost. It's not a simple "recovery", and should be avoided if at all possible.
- "Master" password: this is the one that actually encrypts your content. It is never sent to or stored on our servers — only you know it. That's precisely why, if you lose it, the content encrypted with it cannot be recovered by anyone, not even by us. That's the price of genuine security: no "back door", for anyone.
